Studio Miessen is a collaborative agency for spatial strategy and cultural analysis, conceptualizing, developing and affiliating change through research, design, writing, curatorial and educational activities, and consulting. As productive drivers of transformation, these means build the basis for alternative policies and protocols of critical spatial practice. Studio Miessen conceive space, design strategic framework proposals, research and write on spatial practice and comment on a wide range of cultural phenomena through international publishing. In other words: we produce ideas.

Studio Miessen respond to direct commissions as well as conceive and develop projects, ranging from architectural proposals to editorial services. Unique approaches are being delivered through a network of high-profile international practitioners with expertise in architecture and urbanism, contemporary art, curatorial practice, literature, cultural studies, philosophy and the social sciences. Collaborating with institutions, NGOs, local government, and independent practitioners, our project groups are assembled as polyphonic teams of competence.

The Studio is currently working on projects in Brazil, the US, Europe, and the Middle East, for clients and collaborators such as the European Union’s Institute for Culture, the Government of Slovenia, Städelschule Frankfurt, the Dutch organization SKOR | Foundation for Art and Public Domain, Harvard Graduate School of Design, the Museum for Contemporary Art Leipzig, and several other individuals and institutions of various scales.
